Self Striping Cloth
~ a Knitwits Heaven original design ~
MATERIALS:
•63-74m (70-80yds) of any Self Striping Worsted weight cotton
•Size 4 mm (6US) strait & circular (40cm long)
•Darning needle
Sample Pictured: 8” x 8" with 4 mm (6US) needles & Bernat Handicrafter
SIZE: (See above for size example)
Size is dependent on yarn used and personal gauge but easily blocked to desired dimensions.
See blocking notes below.
GAUGE: 21sts = 10cm (4”) in stockinette on 4mm.
NOTE: Great for any Self striping cotton but you could also use a variegated and give it a whole different look.
BEGIN PATTERN:
Cast on 39 sts
Row 1: Knit across.
Row 2: Purl across.
Continue in stocking stitch for 39 rows or until piece is square, do not cast off.
Edging:
Continue knitting across top 39 sts, pick up & knit 25 sts down the side, pick up & knit 39 sts across the bottom and pick up & knit 25 sts up the last side. (128 sts) Place marker on needle to mark beginning and ending of rounds.
Round 1: Purl around.
Round 2: Knit around, increasing 2 sts on each corner.
Rounds 3 & 4: Repeat rounds 1 & 2.
Cast off, weave in ends and enjoy!
